We shortchange our future when billionaires don't pay what they owe.
For too long, the billionaires and corporations have corrupted our democracy, draining billions from public school classrooms and silencing working families. While North Carolinian families want strong public schools for our kids, politicians have repeatedly chosen tax breaks rather than investing in our students. That's not how democracy is supposed to work. We are organizing together to take back control of public dollars, hold politicians accountable to families instead of donors, and finally put our kids first. This is our line in the sand.
Tell the NCGA to Put Our Kids Over CorporationsWe cannot wait any longer!
We will make our kids North Carolina’s #1 priority by restoring the billions of dollars in tax breaks and vouchers taken from classrooms and investing them back into our schools so every student has smaller classes, modern facilities, and the educators they deserve.
We will make billionaires and corporations pay their fair share to invest in our kids and stop public dollars from being diverted to private school vouchers.
We will strengthen democratic accountability so the people—not corporations—control our public schools and the future for our kids.
Our Demands

When politicians stop answering to voters, they start answering to donors. When that happens, working families and their children pay the price. The result is overcrowded classrooms, crumbling school buildings, rising healthcare costs, and educators leaving the classroom because of low pay. Students lose teachers, counselors, nurses, and the support they deserve. Communities across North Carolina feel the impact. Today, the state is dead last—50th out of 50—in school funding.
Kids Over Corporations is organizing to change that. We cannot wait any longer. Educators, parents, students, and communities across North Carolina are stepping forward to stand shoulder-to-shoulder for our students and our schools. Together, we can take back control of our future.
This is how we do it:
Put Kids First
- Invest at least $20,000 per student by 2030—the highest funding in the Southeast
- Fund modern facilities, free school meals, and more health professionals in schools
- Recruit and retain quality public school teachers and staff with affordable healthcare, better retirement benefits, and a raise of at least 25% for all school employees
End Corporate Tax Breaks
- End corporate tax breaks and redirect that money to public schools and healthcare
- Eliminate private school vouchers
- Fix our tax system so the wealthy finally pay what they owe
Reclaim Our Democracy
- Pass fair maps, protect voting rights, and restore checks and balances in state government
- Lift the ban on collective bargaining for public school workers
- Protect the constitutional rights of all and reject the use of fear, violence and intimidation to divide our communities

Host We Are Public Schools: House Parties and Social Gatherings
These gatherings are simple, informal events where you invite people you already know—family, friends, coworkers, faith communities, fraternity brothers, or sorority sisters—to talk about what's happening in our public schools and what it will take for every student, no matter their ZIP code, to thrive.
Even if you don't want to host a party, you can still be a part of the party. This will be a space that will give Guests an opportunity to share stories and experiences that reveal what's working, and what's not in public education.

Who We Are

Kids Over Corporations is a statewide movement of educators, parents, students, and community members working to restore our democracy and fully fund North Carolina's public schools. From every walk of life and corner of the state, North Carolina's working families are stepping forward to stand shoulder-to-shoulder for our kids.
For too long, powerful corporations and wealthy interests have corrupted our democracy, drained money from classrooms, and silenced working families. While the vast majority of North Carolinians want strong public schools, politicians from both political parties keep choosing tax breaks and privatization instead.
That's not how democracy is supposed to work.
We are organizing across race, zip code, and background to reclaim our democracy and finally put our kids first. Together, we are building the power to take back our future.
Kids Over Corporations is a project of the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE). NCAE is North Carolina's leading voice for educational excellence, for children and their families, and for the public schools they count on. As the public school employees union and the largest association of professional educators in North Carolina, our membership extends to all 100 counties and includes teachers, non-classified school staff, administrators, students, retirees, and community allies. NCAE believes that every child has a right to a high-quality education, an excellent teacher, and a well-funded school.
